Based on the fact that only societies that support the development of the individuals they live with can have a future, Fundación MAPFRE aims to provide comprehensive education, especially for children and young people who are disadvantaged in society. The Foundation sees comprehensive education as one of the basic needs for a person to reach their full potential. Therefore, it works in collaboration with local organizations on projects that support access to nutrition, health, education and employment.

Fighting COVID-19

Since the emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic, the priority of Fundación MAPFRE (MAPFRE Foundation) is; to support and protect the most vulnerable, the most socially challenged and those fighting the virus on the front line. In this context, Fundación MAPFRE carries out projects to protect social health in the countries where it operates. All resources; It is used to better protect people against the virus, support disadvantaged population groups and help overcome this crisis with the lowest possible impact.
These resources are grouped under 3 main headings;

  • Support for CSIC research team: €5 million donated for different ongoing projects to understand the virus and accelerate the development of the vaccine.
  • Purchase of medical supplies: Medical supplies, personal protective equipment and ventilators were purchased to help fight the epidemic and protect healthcare personnel, workers responsible for the care of elderly citizens, and everyone involved in working with high-risk groups. In this context, it is aimed to support the establishment of emergency medical units and field hospitals. In addition, 20 million Euros were allocated for all these projects, including the dissemination of tests used to diagnose COVID-19.
  • Emergency health services: Protecting high-risk groups such as elderly citizens, healthcare workers and the most vulnerable people, and providing them with economic and psychological support are also among the focus areas.

  • Actions Regarding COVID-19 in Turkey
    Coronavirus (COVID-19) knows no country or border, so together we see the importance of solidarity and unity better. In this regard, our Foundation carries out projects within the scope of combating the epidemic not only in Spain but also in the 27 countries where it operates.

Some of the projects we have implemented in Turkey with the support of Fundación MAPFRE (MAPFRE Foundation):

  • The medical equipment needs of 500 elderly citizens living in Darüşşafaka Guesthouses and the medical teams on duty were met.
  • Donations were made to the “We Are Enough for Ourselves, My Turkey” campaign through the Turkish Insurance Association.
    40,000 face shields produced by a local manufacturer were donated to various public hospitals in Istanbul, the center of the epidemic.

Hospice Directorate, ANT Artist Living Center and Dr. Beşir Akınal, about 1000 citizens over the age of 65 living in nursing homes and nursing home employees; Medical needs such as masks, gowns, disinfectants and ventilators were met.

Health Promotion

Fundación MAPFRE plays an important role in the field of health promotion. It organises awareness-raising and educational programmes for the prevention of non-communicable diseases. These programmes aim to promote healthy living habits, focusing on the major health problems of our time, such as cardiovascular disease, cancer, diabetes and high blood pressure.

In line with this goal, it aims to promote healthy eating habits, physical exercise and proper rest, which have the greatest impact on these diseases.

Social Development

Only societies that support the development of their citizens have a future. With this in mind, Fundación MAPFRE aims to provide comprehensive education, with a focus on children and young people who are disadvantaged in society. The Foundation believes that a comprehensive education is essential for each individual to reach their full potential for growth and personal development. For this reason, it collaborates with local organisations to carry out projects that support access to nutrition, health, education and employment.

  • Scholarships:

Since 2016, educational scholarships have been provided to our students through TEV. In the 2023 – 2024 academic year, TEV provides scholarships to 83 university students, 30 of whom are disabled.

Since 2017, we have been providing educational support to our students through the Darüşşafaka Society. In the 2023 – 2024 academic year, in order to support the education of our students, educational support is provided by covering the expenses of 5 maths teachers.

Accident Prevention and Road Safety

Fundación MAPFRE aims to raise public awareness on the prevention of road accidents and the reduction of accident and injury rates. The primary focus is on groups at risk (children, youth, adults and the elderly) and vulnerable groups (pedestrians and drivers of two-wheeled vehicles). To this end, the Foundation develops various communication and awareness-raising programmes on road safety.

The “Smart Kids of the City” project, carried out in cooperation with the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, the Ministry of National Education and TÜVTÜRK Vehicle Inspection Stations, aims to raise awareness of traffic rules among future generations. In the project, 4th grade students studying in 10 provinces are reached every year, and information is provided on many subjects such as the meaning of traffic signs, the importance of seat belts and carelessness that may cause accidents in traffic.

The project has so far reached more than 91 thousand students, nearly 183 thousand parents and more than 3 thousand teachers in 600 schools.
